Fanbike Lactate Threshold Test - Relative Anaerobic Power Output

In this video Coach Guyer covers a fanbike test they utilize with their athletes both in house and online for testing an athletes anaerobic power or lactate threshold relative to their body weight. This test gives athletes an metric describing their ability to work at a very high intensity for a very short period of time. You will reach a point where the body's ability to buffer or utilize lactate as fuel is surpassed, your lactate threshold, which provides useful information for implementation of anaerobic training and power in your training program. Most fanbikes do not allow modifications for the body weight of the rider, which means the score is not relative to each individuals power output and more just a general indicator of performance. Coach Guyer shows a simple but effective strategy they use for determining a score or output more relative to each athlete's body weight, which plays a big role in the performance on one of these fanbikes. Ex: A 200# athlete who completes 35 calories in 30sec has a score of .175 cal/#, while a 175# athlete who completes 35 cal in 30sec has as score of .2 cal/#. In our testing when using a Schwinn Airdyne Pro: Males who score .20 cal/# and higher is very good, while .22 cal/# and higher is elite. Women who score .15 cal/# and higher is very good, while .17 cal/# and higher is elite.
